CricInfo: ‘We’re still very much looking at that’ for the Crows

The Adelaide Crows will be looking for their best chance to make the finals this year with the injury to Tom Lynch and the return of Travis Cloke.

The Blues have been unable to keep a regular line-up with key defenders Jarrod Witts and Alex Rance both suspended while Mitch Duncan and Matthew Leuenberger are still recovering from ankle surgery.

“We’re going to look at the players we have available,” coach Ross Lyon said.

“If we’re not able to keep our players, we’re going back to the drawing board.”

It’s something we’re really looking at as we look at this week’s games.

“Obviously we’ve got some very good players on the list but I think we’re still really looking into those and making sure that we’re getting the right fit out there.”

Adelaide has lost four games in a row, including two to the Brisbane Lions.

Rance is one of four Blues players to be suspended this season, joining Tom Lynch, Nick Malceski and Tom Hawkins.

Coach Lyon has said the club’s medical staff will be reviewing the players’ availability to assess whether they need to make a change.

“Our medical staff, they’ve done an excellent job with Tom and we’ve said to them, ‘Look, we can’t allow Tom Lynch to play for us, you’ve got to make sure that you’re getting him in there,'” Lyon said on Monday.

“I’m not sure if we’ve seen the medical report on that, but it seems to me that the risk of Tom Lynch playing for us for the rest of the season, especially after he came back from surgery, is significant.”

Adelante Watson, Tom Lynch (AFLPA)Adelaide lost four of its last five games and has dropped five of its past six to start the season.

The Crows have lost four straight and seven of eight.

Adelaide’s first two matches of the round were against Brisbane Lions and Fremantle.

“The only thing that’s been really disappointing for us is that we’ve been struggling against some of the stronger teams that we played against at the start of the year,” Lyon said of his side’s recent struggles.

“But it’s only one week into the season and it’s a really important game, so we’ll take it with a pinch of salt.”
